A leading line is a compositional technique where a natural line leads the viewer's eyes through a photograph to the subject or the heart of the image. In the back to the left there is the tiny looking Ferryland Lighthouse but the main subject here is really the geological contact between a bed of buff-coloured massive sandstone and a bed of intercalated and laminated red and buff mudstone/sandstone of the Ferryland Head Formation near Calvert Bay.
